After being a fan of Fenty Beauty over the years, I was ecstatic to see the launch of Fenty Skin. It is always a concern for me when celebrities curate skincare brands because we know that they aren’t professionals within this industry, however, their status allows the access to awesome chemists and formulators! Plus, they are used to getting feedback from fans and can hopefully use that in curating the brand. You can tell by the title that I don’t exactly put Fenty Skin on the top of my list of recommendations, so let’s dive into this honest review of the products.
First Impressions and Positive Thoughts
Yes, the bar really is that low that I was ecstatic to see…AN SPF YA’LL! Many new skincare lines *cough* Kylie Skin *cough* can take quite a while before they start selling sunscreen. It does take some time for the FDA to approve sunscreens in the United States, so I appreciate Fenty waiting it out in order to put this in their first launch. I know that many young people will be purchasing this line and I’m glad we are spreading sun safety.
The packaging is super pretty and would look good on anyone’s sink or vanity. I love the lavender color and that it is a gender neutral brand!
Individual Product Reviews:
Total Cleans’R Remove-it-all Cleanser, 4.9 fl oz $25
What it is: 2-in-1 cream based cleanser that removes makeup and cleanses the skin
Key Ingredients: Acerola Cherry, Gingko Biloba, Green Tea, Fig
Overall, this cleanser is pretty good if you’re looking for a 2-in-1 one product and hoping to be more environmentally friendly by ditching the makeup wipes. It has some strong ingredients for brightening, clarifying, and powerful antioxidants. I still much prefer a double cleansing system (oil cleanser then water based cleanser) to effectively remove makeup and cleanse the skin, but this option isn’t bad for newbies to skincare. I really enjoy the twist top packaging and find it to be much better than some other cleansers on the market.
Some better options for double cleansing would be to start with the Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm, then wash with the Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser.
Many people have expressed their concerns with the addition of fragrance in this product. I personally do not believe that fragrance in cleanser is a big deal as it doesn’t stay on the skin long enough to cause sensitivity. However, it doesn’t really need to be there either so it is personal preference. The fragrance is light and doesn’t overwhelm.
Fat Water Pore Refining Toner Serum, 5 fl oz $28
What it is: 2-in-1 product that is supposed to target pores, brighten, smooth, and reduce shine of the skin without stripping it
Key Ingredients: Niacinamide, Acerola Cherry, Witch Hazel Water, Cactus Flower, Green Tea and Fig
This hybrid product follows the model of “less is more” throughout the Fenty skin line. The consistency of this toner is much thicker than a normal toner, and really feels like a serum when applied. Overall, I don’t really like that it is a toner and serum in one. I would have much preferred them to make a serum with niacinamide, or salicylic acid to help clear the pores that can be used by many skin types. This toner does have witch hazel which is quite controversial. I have personally used it in my skin care routine before and over time found better alternatives as it can be too drying. This is the case of it may work great for some, not so great for others.
Overall, you would be better skipping this product in your routine, but I enjoy that they tried something innovative. Hopefully in the next launch they expand to just an individual serum.
For a gentle toner that wont strip any skin type, try using the Versed Baby Cheeks Hydrating Milk and follow up with a potent serum to keep the pores clean. A great affordable option is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1 %
Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, 1.7 fl oz $35
What it is: lightweight hydration and transparent chemical sun defense, oil free, coral reef safe and refillable
Key Ingredients: Kalahari Melon, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Baobab
I absolutely love that this packaging is refillable. Very unique and a great way to improve your packaging to be more sustainable! For the price, there are some good ingredients in this product however I have used other transparent SPF products that I prefer over this one! The fragrance in this product is a tad overwhelming for me as I prefer an unfragranced sunscreen. If you enjoy hydrating sunscreens, maybe go for the Biossance Squalane + Zinc Mineral Sunscreen or the EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46.
Another important point to this SPF is that it is a chemical sunscreen as opposed to a mineral/physical option. I don’t mind using chemical sunscreens so long as they are deemed reef safe, which the Fenty skin one is, but I like to point that out since people have preferences.

Final Thoughts On Fenty Skin
Overall consensus: let’s wait for the next launch
After reading countless blogs and watching video after video reviewing this brand, I expressed my opinions. As always, I wanted to be sure to give a comprehensive review and see other people’s opinions on this skincare line as well before giving my own. Spending money on skincare isn‘t a hobby for most people like it is for me, and honestly I can say this brand had a decent first launch…but they can do so much better. I want to hold celebrity skincare lines to the same standard as any other product launch! The pros of Fenty skin is that Rihanna’s influence helps more people to start their skincare journey and overall these products are not too bad for newbies, and are easy to understand. However, there are other products and brands that definitely win over this one. I don’t want to use products that are just okay, I want the best of the best for my skin!
What are your thoughts on Fenty Skin? Have you picked up any of these products? Let me know in the comments!
They definitely know how to lure you in with their packaging! Thanks for the information – it was truly helpful!
Yes, I do love the packaging! Lavender should be used more in the skincare world.
