Glowing Makeup Tutorial for all Skin Types

Now that Summer is right around the corner, changing up our makeup routines is inevitable. It’s time to ditch the heavy, full-coverage foundation for something more light and comfortable! This glowing makeup tutorial gives you that fresh ”your skin but better” look.

There are 3 things I need from a good makeup routine:

  • Glowing skin, without looking oily
  • lasts at least 8 hours indoors/outdoors
  • my skin but better…#iwokeuplikethis

Here is my routine to check off all three of those non-negotiables. This only takes about 10-15 minutes!

Every good makeup routine starts with even better skincare. You didn’t think I would leave out skincare on this post, did you?! These skin care products would work for most skin types as well.

Eye Cream

Tula Rose Glow & Get it Eye Balm, $30

When I wake up, it is so important to brighten the under eye area. I look more awake and like I slept an extra 2 hours. This one by Tula is SO REFRESHING. It has a slight rosy tint that illuminates the under eye.

I do a few swipes under my eye and above the lid! This works especially for those with dark circles or someone who just wants something cooling and refreshing.

Vitamin C Serum

Ole Henrikson Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum, $65

I have started using this serum every morning for the past two months and it has done wonders to my skin! Vitamin C is known to brighten the skin, improve appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, increase collagen production, provide protection from free radicals, and help lighten hyperpigmentation. I like this one because it has 15% Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. It brightens and plumps, which is perfect for the morning!

I highly recommend this for all skin types. If not this specific serum, other potent Vitamin C products.

Moisturizer

Ole Henrikson C-Rush Brightening Gel Creme, $46 for full size (trial size pictured)

This moisturizer gives me another boost of that Vitamin C antioxidant power! It has a gel consistency, which is super light and refreshing. I got this sample size when I purchased a minis kit from Ole Henrikson and this quickly became one of my favorite AM moisturizers. It always gives my skin a noticeable glow.

I believe this would work for all skin types! If you are extra dry, you could add a hydrating serum before-hand in place of the Vitamin C.

Sunscreen

Biossance Squalane and Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30, $30 for full size (trial size pictured)

The final step in my morning skincare is always SPF. I got this product in a Sephora suncare kit with several other sunscreens from other brands. This one stood out to me immediately because it has great ingredients and my skin GLOWS when I use it. Your sunscreen should be SPF 30 always, anything less may not be fully protecting you and anything more is not really necessary.

This sunscreen would definitely work for all skin types, especially dry because of all the hydrating ingredients. I have normal to oily skin, and it does not feel heavy or greasy. There is no white cast either!

After applying those products, this is what my skin looks like. I am using natural light coming in from the window. I notice my skin feels ultra soft and looks plump and healthy. Now we are ready for some makeup!

Primer

NYX Bare With Me Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Radiant Perfecting Primer, $15

This primer feels moisturizing when applied and gives an instant glow and reflect. There is no sparkly glitter that looks unnatural. It claims to be sensitive skin friendly as well! It does not have that dimethicone, pore filling consistency that I personally can’t stand either.

Next, I throw on some quick brows. This step can be skipped if you don’t want to do them!

Brows

Urban Decay Brow Beater Microfine Brow Pencil Shade Dark, $20

I have pretty messy brows at the moment… *QuArAnTinE ThINgs* Honestly, I have been trimming them frequently just have not waxed them in about 3 months. So, after a quick fill in with this, I clean them up a little using the Anastasia Pro Pencil (shade Base 1) underneath, and some Colorpop Brow Boss Gel in clear to lock in place. I like how feathery and natural this looks.

Skin Tint

Lancôme Skin Feels Good Hydrating Skin Tint with Broad Spectrum SPF 23 Shade 10C, $35

The trick to getting that fresh, natural skin is a tinted moisturizer. First, I love the packaging of this product. It has a pump and is plastic making it easy to just throw in your bag. This skin tint has sunscreen, but you still need to apply your own beforehand! This makes it easy to add that extra barrier on top, though. It feels ultra-light and super hydrating on the skin. It leaves me slightly tacky. This has light to medium coverage for a natural look. I only apply one pump and I use a large round foundation brush to buff it out.

This is what the skin looks like so far!

Concealer

I use two different concealers, which is totally unnecessary. But, I’m a little bit extra…and that’s okay! I recommend choosing a hydrating concealer that leaves the skin feeling slightly tacky. This makes my under eyes look refreshed and glowy. Do not go overboard when applying!

Kosas Revealer Concealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer in shade 3.5, $28

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in shade Affogato, $30

I apply a couple dots of each concealer, then blend them out with a small stippling brush! These concealers are so creamy and give that natural, dewy look. I mix a darker and a lighter shade to achieve some under eye brightness that looks natural. We aren’t trying to highlight too heavily.

Powder

RMS Beauty Tinted “Un”Powder in shade 0-1 Fair, $34

I am obsessed with this powder. I really enjoy that it is a clean beauty brand. Many makeup powders have talc and other harmful ingredients that are easily inhaled when applied. This powder feels light and doesn’t make my skin look cakey. The most important aspect to using powder during a glowy makeup look is to only apply where you need it. If you are dry, you might opt to completely skip powder. For me, I get oily on my forehead and chin, and my under eyes tend to crease. I apply a small amount of this tinted powder in those areas to ensure my makeup still lasts all day.

Blush, Bronzer, and Highlight

Now that the skin is looking natural and fresh, this step adds some pop! I usually use a mixture of cream and powder products so that they look natural and last longer. Using products with some shimmer really get that reflect on the skin that makes it look so healthy! *click image to shop*

Smash box Contour Stick, $23

Becca Sunlit bronzer in shade Capri Coast, $38

Flower Beauty Blush Bomb Color Drops in Shades Nectar and Melon, $9.99

Tower 28 SuperDew Highlighter Balm, $18

Becca Skin Love Glow Glaze Stick, $28

How the skin looks using the products mentioned above

The highlighter balm by Tower 28 is such a stand-out product for me. It gives me a fresh dew that looks like my cheeks are almost wet. If you want to use one of your current powder highlighters, be sure to set with plenty of setting spray. Alternatively, you can use a damp makeup sponge to press into the highlighter pan and dab onto high points of cheekbones. With the Tower 28 balm, I like to use my fingertips. Then I smudge a bit of the Becca stick right at the highest point.

A quick coat of mascara, and the look is complete!

This skin is seriously to die for. It looks like my skin, but better! The makeup products give my that glow that I always want. It also feels super lightweight and comfortable if you are going to be outside all day.

This last picture is my skin after 8 hours of wear. Also, this was taken right after a sweaty cardio workout. Look how fresh my skin still looks! No cakiness, no smudging, and still decent coverage. I did no touch-ups at all throughout the day or before this picture.
