As we approach Summer, a friendly reminder is needed to keep our skin protected and healthy. May 27th is National Sunscreen Day 2022, also known as “No Fry Day”! So let’s go through my favorite sunscreens for all skin types and budgets so you don’t fall victim to sunburn this summer!
Remember to wear sunscreen all year round, too 🙂
Who Needs Sunscreen?
A little info to keep in mind: everyone above age 6 months should wear sunscreen to keep their skin protected from the sun’s harmful rays. It is recommended to wear at least SPF 30 and also reapply every 2 hours to get the best protection.
All skin tones should wear sunscreen. You should also be wearing it even on those cloudy beach days, and if you’re wanting extra bonus points…when you’re staying inside too! UVA rays do come through the windows and can cause damage to the skin over time. Learn more about UV blocking window film here (source).
Does It Really Matter?
The sun is responsible for 90% of the visible damage to our skin (source) – seen through decreased elasticity, dark spots, broken capillaries, dullness, and other signs of aging. UVA rays cause those signs of aging, whereas the UVB rays are “burning” rays responsible for superficial damage to the outermost layer of the skin.
If we don’t protect our skin daily, then we are susceptible to not only these signs of aging but also dangerous skin cancers. Skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the U.S. with one in five Americans getting it during their life time (source).
What Sunscreen Options Do You Have?
Sunscreen formulas come three ways: chemical, mineral or hybrid. No one is truly better than the other as long as you are getting broad spectrum protection. Overall, it is all up to preference and skin type! You can also find sunscreen in a lotion, liquid, gel, cream, spray or powder.

Body Sunscreens and Ways to Reapply
You definitely can use body sunscreens for the face, but the ingredients can typically be a bit heavy and greasy feeling. This is why I recommend investing in a good facial sunscreen that you enjoy applying and spending less on your body one.
Since you need to be reapplying frequently, here are some of my favorite options that are portable and don’t require a mirror!
Everyday Humans Oh My Bod! SPF 50 Sunscreen
Kopari Sun Shield Body Glow Gel SPF 50
Derma E Ultra Sheer Mineral Body Sunscreen Mist SPF 30
Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder SPF 30
National Sunscreen Day 2022 Wrap-up
I wanted to provide you with the ultimate sunscreen guide for No Fry Day so that you feel ready to protect your skin. Remember that it doesn’t take long to apply a bit of sunscreen and wear that wide brim hat before heading to the pool. Also, many sunscreen formulas are no longer thick and greasy so they are much easier to use every day.
Which sunscreen are you picking up to protect your skin??
