Which New Celebrity Skincare Line WINS?

Celebrity skincare lines are not going away, that’s for sure. More and more of our favorite celebs are coming out with their “secrets” to perfect skin that we can use at home. Hailey Beiber & Kim Kardashian have both launched new skincare lines this month. We gotta compare them, right?! I would love to be able to purchase every product and try it for you, but my bank account won’t allow it. So, let’s talk pricing, packaging, and formulas!

SKKN By Kim

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to the beauty world. After already launching her own makeup and fragrance lines, she is diving into the world of luxury skincare. Emphasis on the word luxury.

By working with top estheticians and dermatologists, Kim wanted to create a 9 step skincare line that can give everyone their best skin yet. Her personal esthetician Joanna Czech helped curate the line with the same ingredients that Kim uses in her own signature facials!

Packaging & Aesthetics

Kim is known for loving her muted neutrals. I mean, we’ve all seen her house tour right?? It is very museum-esque. She stated that she wanted her products to really have it all- the right formulas and beautiful packaging that you feel happy to put on display. I enjoy the stone color and design of the packaging. It is pretty, clean and definitely has that luxury feel. You saw those hefty price tags!

Sustainability & Overall Brand Ethos

SKKN By Kim claims to deliver nourishment, renewal, and an indulgent-at home experience through their nine step ritual. They also offer a subscription service so don’t have to remember to re-order your faves.

If you’re a beauty brand launching in 2022, there is NO reason why sustainability shouldn’t be at the forefront of your mind. SKKN has come under fire for their so called refillable packaging that doesn’t seem to make sense to consumers. Check out this video to see for yourself:

The claims for sustainability and being less wasteful don’t make sense when there appears to be more packaging created for the unnecessary outer shell. What do you think?

In this video showcasing the eye cream, the refillable packaging seems more intentional than the cleanser. Plus, it states that the refills are crafted with recycled plastic and delivered in compostable bags. Buttttt, overall it seems like she used refills to appear sustainable when in reality she kind of just chose wasteful packaging.

Rhode Skin By Hailey Beiber

Launched on 6/15 exclusively at the Rhode Skin Website

Hailey Beiber’s new line Rhode Skincare uses the motto, “edited, efficacious, and intentional”. They claim to believe in skincare for all that is accessible and research backed. Okay, I’m intrigued!

Packaging & Aesthetics

All of the Rhode Skincare come in a light gray color. I enjoy the minimalist and neutral look. I think it shows that they care more about the products and ingredients than having flashy or intricate packaging.

Sustainability & Overall Brand Ethos

Rhode Skincare shares their efforts with sustainability through limited product releases to decrease overconsumption, consciously sourced ingredients, and upcycled/recyclable packaging.

They use PCR and have demos on their website for how to recycle each of your products. You can also email them to request a free shipping label and have them do it for you (minimum 3 products) and they give you a code for 10% off your next order! The are also conscious about their shipping boxes by using zero-waste options that cut down on the unnecessary mailers and can be reused.

The overall theme of this brand surround minimalist skincare for all that is no bs. Good for everyone, easy to use, and your classic staple you want to use every day. This is definitely a popular theme in the skincare community right now, so I love that they chose this as the over arching goal of the company. Less is more with skincare.

Also, Rhode Futures Foundation has committed to donating a minimum of 1% of sales to support women and their families by 2023. They partner with three organizations: Accion Opportunity Fund, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and the LIFT Family Goal Fund. Learn more about this here

Which Celebrity Skincare Line Wins?

To me, this is a no brainer. Rhode Skincare is the clear winner and the one I will be spending my money on! Unfortunately, it sold out super fast on launch day so I am waiting for a restock to purchase the full line. I will update with full reviews on my Instagram (@taratheestie)!

I think SKKN By Kim is disappointing. I don’t have an issue with luxury lines, but the formulas don’t appear to be super revolutionary. The packaging seems wasteful too, althoug I do enjoy the design. Ofcourse it is important to remember that I have not used any of these products yet so I can’t give a full review – but, I can already tell it probably is not worth the high price.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts on these two celebrity skincare lines in the comments 🙂
