Anti-Haul: New Skincare that is a waste of Money

I love spending money on skincare more than your average lady, okay, but sometimes…I have to put my foot down. With all the new Summer 2020 launches, there were several products I chose to skip out on. If you have never had the joy of reading an anti-haul before, it goes as follows: these are all products I am choosing to not purchase. It is all my personal opinion and is in no way hating on any brand as a whole. Most of these products aren’t really bad, but I feel as if there are better alternatives, doesn’t work for me, etc.

1) Glow Recipe Plum Plump Hyaluronic Acid Serum, $42

Anti-Haul Pick number 1: This product really got me excited initially when I saw how freaking adorable the packaging is. A purple plum? Yes!! But, I can’t always purchase products solely on packaging, so I researched the ingredients a bit. I have spent up to $100 before on Hyaluronic acid serums and realized the price doesn’t really matter: it is all about the weight of hyaluronic acid incorporated in the formula. This particular product does tout extra low (absorbs super quickly) up to high weight (more occlusive hydration) hyaluronic acid, BUT similarly does my Ordinary HA + B5 gel. This serum does have some other good components, but if you use other antioxidants or skin soothing serums/moisturizers in your routine, you don’t necessarily need it.

Overall, not worth it because I have a cheaper option and other skincare products that do similar things.

2) Sunday Riley Pink Drink Firming Resurfacing Essence, $48

So Sunday Riley was teasing this recent release product for a while, hinting at the new “pink” product. Honestly, the name is definitely cute and giving me Starbucks vibes due to their infamous pink drink. I think this product is definitely unique, as it is labeled an essence and not a serum. You mist this directly on the face or into palms and pat in. I have used essences in the past and just didn’t notice a difference in my skin. I would much rather spend nearly $50 on this product in serum form, not as a mister.

Overall: Too pricey for what it does.

3) Tula So Polished Exfoliating Sugar Scrub, $32

Moving to exfoliants, let’s talk the new Tula sugar scrub. I know you expect me to really lay it into them about creating a sugar scrub for the face and…you’re exactly right! C’mon Tula! I don’t hate physical exfoliants if: you have ultra dry skin as it can help increase the skin’s production of oils, or if you have super tough and ruddy skin. Either way, I wouldn’t reach for a sugar based product.

Overall: it’s the harshness for me. Next!

4) Kylie Skin Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Face Sunscreen, $28

I love testing out new sunscreens and have really made it a goal this year to discover the best of the best to recommend to you guys. I was happy that Kylie Skin finally released a face sunscreen as they did wait quite a while to do so. However, it shouldn’t have taken so long since they ultimately copied another formula. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen, is that you?! I put the ingredient list side by side below so you can see the comparison. It isn‘t *that* crazy to see similar formulas of skincare products, obviously, but to wait a while to release one that is almost identical to many people‘s favorite?? Leaves a bad taste in my mouth and definitely gets added to my anti-haul list pronto!

The active ingredients used as UV protection are the same as they are both chemical sunscreens. Percentages are slightly different, but the inactive ingredients are the ones that really show the similarities!

Kylie SPF:

Avobenzone 3% Homosalate 6% Octisalate 5% Octocrylene 6%

Isododecane, Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane,
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Polyester-7, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Isohexadecane, Meadowfoam Estolide, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Jojoba Esters, Diethylhexyl Syringylidenemalonate, Caprylyl Glycol, Himanthalia Elongata Extract, Laminaria Hyperborea Extract, Tocopherol, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil

Supergoop SPF:

Avobenzone, 3% Homosalate 8%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 4%

Isododecane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Isohexadecane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Meadowfoam Estolide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyester-7, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Lithothamnion Calcareum Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Jojoba Esters, Mannitol, Olibanum, Lecithin, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Diatomaceous Earth, Zinc Sulfate, Silica, Tocopherol

Overall: I already love Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen so I don’t feel the need to buy this!

5) Fenty Skin, $75 for set

Last pick of the Anti-Haul: You guys already know my thoughts on the newly launched Fenty Skin line. If you haven’t yet checked out my review, read it here. I am hoping for more products from them in the future that I think worthy to add to my collection!

Overall: not bad, but not right for me.

Hopefully this anti-haul was a fun way to save you some money. Even if you totally still want or have any of these products I listed, it is still fun to share opinions! Let me know below what you plan on not buying out of the recent skincare launches.
