As an esthetician, I have learned so many tricks of the trade that I could never keep all to myself! As I continue to learn more and more, I want to always share the best tips with you guys. Today, I decided to gather 4 easy, estie-approved tricks to up your skincare routine. Some of these may seem simple but you probably have not thought about the positive effects they can have on your skin. Be sure to share these esthetician tips and tricks with your friends and family who love skincare too!
1) Wash your hands before cleansing
This may seem almost juvenile to say, but you really do need to wash your hands. There is plenty of icky bacteria on our hands that we can spread all over our face while cleansing! Even if you cleanse while in the shower, scrub up with some soap first. I have made a habit of cleansing at the sink and always washing my hands before going in with my double cleanse. This especially helps to reduce new breakouts and spreading them further. Whether or not you have issues with breakouts though, always clean your hands first!
2) Use a warm towel to remove cleansers or facial masks
Seriously, this trick could change your perspective on the “chore” of facial cleansing. Being a staple of any spa treatment, a warm towel not only works to remove product but also provides a steam effect to the skin! You may not have a towel warmer and spa music playing in the background- but that’s okay. You can, and should, use this same trick to remove your face masks. Watch this demo of how I utilize a warm towel to remove my cleanser:
Another optional tip is to add a 1-3 drops of diluted essential oil to towel. Only do this if you are not sensitive to essential oils! Inhale the scent when you press towel on the face. Aids in relaxation and calming the mind while you cleanse.
3) Massage your skincare products in
Facial massage provides so many benefits to the overall skin health. Not only does it feel good but it can give the skin a natural glow and increase blood flow causing a plumping effect. Over time, it works to improve fine lines, wrinkles and texture of the skin. Although we may not have time for a separate facial massage daily, we can massage in our daily products to see benefits! When applying cleanser, it works more efficiently to remove dirt and oils if you massage all around the skin. This same technique also works perfectly for your moisturizers and facial oils! Check out my demo for how I massage my cleanser in daily:
If you have the time, I highly recommend incorporating a full massage a few times a week. I have a full blog post for how to do a full facial massage at home with a demo here
4) Be consistent
We are getting used to hearing that we need to wait and see before making a determination on a skincare product’s efficacy. This is especially true when it comes to certain exfoliants like retinol and glycolic acid- it may take months to see a noticeable change! However, you may see some immediate differences when it comes to hydration levels and overall skin brightness from your daily routine. Doing your routine twice daily gives you the best chance of seeing the skin changes you desire! I am sharing the difference between an immediate glow I get from using a sheet mask and a 30 day change by using a Vitamin C serum every day:
The point of showing you these pictures is to say that daily consistency is key for your immediate changes, as well as changes you will see over time! I see instant changes to my hydration levels, glow, brightness and plumpness in my skin from doing a quick sheet mask and my morning routine. Over the course of using my vitamin c daily, I saw improvements in my hyperpigmentation and overall skin tone after a month. This is another reminder to track your progress so you really see the changes/if it’s working for you.
