Should You Buy the Aveeno Calm + Restore Line? Full Review!

aveeno calm + restore line, aveeno oat gel moisturizer, aveeno skincare

Drugstore skincare has seriously made a complete 180 from when we were growing up. Riddled with alcohol and harsh ingredients, I learned my lesson as a teenager to invest a bit more in my skin once I got older. Nowadays, you can see my crawling back to the aisles of target to purchase the newest affordable launches. By using skin repairing ingredients, offering easy to understand products and gentle moisturizers to suit more skin types, you no longer need to splurge on every step on your routine! Let’s jump into the my Aveeno calm and restore reviews for each of the products in this popular line.

Quick Specs

  • All of the products in the line can typically be found between $8-$25. I have noticed that they are on sale at Target frequently. You can also purchase these at Walmart, Walgreens, Ulta, and online retailers.
  • The packaging for each product is plastic and the serum and moisturizer come in a paper unicarton.
  • All of the products in the line are fragrance free, dye free, alcohol free, and tested for sensitive skin.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser, $10 7.8 fl oz

Key Ingredients: Oat Kernel Flour, Feverfew Flower Juice, Sodium Hyaluronate

Texture & Feel: Thick, gel cleanser (non foaming)

Suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin

Worth it? Yes! I really enjoy a gentle cleanser option for basically all skin types. It works well with either a full gentle routine or a strong retinol. This doesn’t strip the skin at all, refreshes and effectively cleanses the skin. The formula is straightforward, but it does include calming ingredients.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum, $22 1 fl oz

Key Ingredients: Glycerin, Feverfew Flower Juice, Oat Kernel Flour, Oat Kernel Oil, Oat Kernel Extract

Texture & Feel: Creamy serum that sinks in quickly. Non-greasy

Suitable for all skin types but recommended for those that need skin barrier repair/irritated/dry. I love using this on my off days from exfoliating.

Worth it? Yes and no. This serum is definitely soothing an calming but if you are in need of some serious barrier repair then it may not be hefty enough. If you can spend more, I recommend the Glow Recipe Avocado Ceramide Redness Relief Serum instead. It has a very similar feel but healed my skin a bit more. However, it is double to price. I also believe that the packaging for this could use a change, the dropper is difficult to use. But overall you probably will not be disappointed in this Aveeno Serum for gentle healing and hydration.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer, $19 1.7 oz

Key Ingredients: Glycerin, Oat Kernel Flour, Feverfew Flower Juice, Oat Kernel Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract

Texture & Feel: Thick gel texture, dimethicone finish that seals in moisture, leaves skin soft and smooth

Suitable for all skin types, especially irritated and dry. I love using this at night to seal in all my treatment serums.

Worth it? Yes! This quickly has become a favorite of mine. I really love gel moisturizers, but this one is so unique. It is non-sticky, soothing and fresh. The price point is a good value based on the amount you get and the ingredients.

Some Background on Aveeno and Oats in Skincare

When discussing if a product is truly worth it or not, you have to consider all the factors. The ingredients list, the claims, the look and feel of the products, experience as well as sourcing and ethics of the brand! Aveeno is a company that has been around since 1945- so, they definitely have made plenty of innovations since the start. But one thing has always stayed the same: the use of oats!

How do oats help our skin?

Aveeno makes it clear on their website that not all oats are the same. They use a prebiotic oat to help “replenish the skin’s natural barrier and support its natural ecosystem, for a healthy, balanced skin” (source).

The use of oats for the skin have been used for centuries, with oatmeal baths being used in Egypt to soothe itchy and dry skin. Research and development began in the 1930s and 1940s with the FDA approving collodial oatmeal as a safe and effective over the counter drug (source)!

Where do they source?

Aveeno also does their sourcing in specific places for the best oats to use in their skincare products. The optimal climates in Canade, France, UK and the U.S. ensure that the oats have the best natural protective and hydrating abilities.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Line Wrap-up

Overall, I would say the entire line is worth checking out! After using all of the products, I know why I see so many Aveeno calm and restore reviews online. Whether you typically use luxury skincare or enjoy products around that $20 price mark, you will probably find at least one of the products making their way into your daily rotation.

What are you dying to try? Do you prefer drugstore skincare over luxury? Let me know!

  1. I use all 3 of these products and love them! With your recommendation, I use the serum before applying my retinol. This has helped ANY irritation. Thanks for another great blog!
